When production continuity cannot afford interruptions 

In the pharmaceutical sector, every plant shutdown can have significant consequences in terms of productivity, quality and process management.  For this reason, when a major pharmaceutical company turned to Claind to manage its nitrogen supply, the objective was not simply to install a generator. 

The objective was to design a system capable of ensuring 24/7 operational continuity, high quality standards and full autonomy in gas production. 

The result is a nitrogen generation plant consisting of five DOMINUS NL generators installed in an integrated configuration, designed to support critical production processes with high reliability requirements.

Many pharmaceutical companies still use nitrogen supplied through cylinders or cryogenic tanks. 

An apparently simple solution, but one that involves several critical issues:

From supplying a generator to designing a production plant 

When the required flow rates become significant and operational continuity is an essential requirement, the project no longer concerns a single generator.

In this case, a true nitrogen production plant was designed, consisting of five DOMINUS NL generators operating in an integrated way. 

The DOMINUS NL series was developed specifically for industrial applications with high nitrogen demand and uses PSA technology, Pressure Swing Adsorption, one of the most reliable solutions for on-site production of high-purity nitrogen. 

Thanks to PSA technology, oxygen and the other components present in the air are separated through special molecular sieves, enabling the continuous production of nitrogen directly at the customer’s site. 

The complexity behind an apparently simple system 

Looking at the installed plant, the scale of the project is immediately clear. 
What cannot be seen, however, is the design work that precedes its implementation. 
Defining a plant of this kind requires an in-depth analysis of numerous parameters: 

Analysis of actual consumption 

Before defining the number of generators and their configuration, it is necessary to understand: 
– average and peak consumption; 
– usage profiles; 
– simultaneous operation of utilities; 
– possible future expansions. 

Definition of the required purity 

In the pharmaceutical sector, gas quality is a fundamental requirement. The configuration must therefore guarantee the purity required by the process consistently over time, even during variations in consumption. 

Redundancy and operational continuity 

When a production process cannot stop, the design must include logics capable of ensuring service continuity. 

The use of multiple integrated units makes it possible to increase the overall reliability of the system and manage any maintenance activities without compromising gas availability. 

Monitoring and control 

DOMINUS NL generators integrate digital control systems that allow continuous monitoring of operating parameters, nitrogen purity and plant operating status.
